Outreach is a cornerstone of the Society’s Mandate. The program is divided into two areas: Educational Outreach and Performance Outreach.
Educational Outreach
We love tap dance and would love to teach you!
Our Outreach Program introduces the student to the rudiments of tap dance in a fun and safe environment, introducing youth to the joys of tap dance. Classes are generally 45 – 60 minutes in length and we recommend each student receive 3-5 classes at minimum. VanTap can facilitate several sessions in one day allowing several classes to benefit from our program.
This class is an excellent arts and cultural activity for youth while exploring rhythms and making music with their feet. Classes can either take place at one’s own facilities or at our studios just off of Renfrew St and Hastings St in Vancouver.
The cost per session is $100.00 per hour and includes a qualified instructor, quality tap shoes* and appropriate music. We can accommodate up to 15 – 20 per class.
*We have tap shoes to borrow, however we are currently very limited in shoes womens size 7 and up.
If you are interested in our program please contact us here. We are open to making the program work for your school and budget! Tap dance is fun, very percussive – everyone loves it once they try it!
This program has been successfully delivered to Kiwassa Neighbourhood House, Kitsilano Secondary, Queen Elizabeth, Thunderbird, Hastings, Tillicum, Children’s Festival, PNE and neighbourhood houses.
Performance Outreach and Free Events
We believe in the power of community and the joy and energy performance-based cultural arts can bring when shared in community gatherings. Our performance outreach works in two ways.
First, we partner with community organizations to facilitate tap dance presentations by students and faculty of the VanTap Academy, TapCo, local tap dance community members, and guest artists hosted by the Society.
Secondly, we present a series of events throughout the year and during the VanTap Festival that are free and open to the public. These include live music tap jams like Celebrate Greg and Celebrate Uncle Bo, Community Conversations, and Film Screenings.
All our outreach events are designed to connect the tap dance family with our local community, and fulfill our vision of spaces in which the cultural values of growth, care, cooperation, excellence, and grace, are experienced, engendered, and expressed with joy through the physical practice of tap dance and related cultural arts.
