Students in our competitive programs and TapCo performing company have the opportunity to commission new works of choreography from our in-house faculty and our guest artists, and to present these works under the banner of VanTap at competitive dance festivals in the Lower Mainland. Learning from acclaimed international artists is just one of the benefits that come with being a VanTap student. We bring tap dance masters in for special events, workshops, our Annual Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival, teaching contracts, or choreography. Through their level of expertise, experience, and recognition, they are the perfect option when thinking of choreography to present at regional competitions.2
Our students’ access to top calibre artists is heavily subsidized by the studio and by the generosity of our funders. We believe it is a part of our mission to preserve and enhance the art form, and we pride ourselves on offering these unique opportunities to our dancers.
Choreography fees pay for the creation of the dance; they do not include costumes, polishing sessions (required), or competition registration fees. Choreography fees vary by artist; for details, please inquire.
New works of choreography are usually completed within three to six hours of in-studio time with your choreographer; this depends on the artist. Accessing choreography is an exciting opportunity, which challenges young dancers to rise to the occasion and work hard to showcase and maintain their piece’s artistic integrity.
